Gorontalo, (Antara) - Police`s Brimob (Mobile Brigade) is tightening security in North Gorontalo and North Sulawesi to forestall infiltration of ISIS fighters from the Philippine`s Marawi.

The Philippine military is seeking to drive out Islamic militant affiliated to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from Marawi, in southern Philippines.

Local authorities in the southern Philippines say as many as 1,500 civilians remain trapped or held hostage in the besieged city of Marawi, as US special forces joined the ongoing military effort to help end the assault by the Islamic militants.

Gorontalo police chief Brig.Gen. Rachmad Fudail, said here on Wednesday the patrol border is to prevent the terror to spread to Indonesian territory .

"Gorontalo is one of the closest Indonesian regions to southern Philippines. It is not impossible that the ISIS fighters crossed the border to Indonesia to escape," he said.

The Philippine government is launching large scale military attack on the militants which took over control of Marawi in May," Rachmad said.

Chief of the Gorontalo Brimob unit Sr. Com. Kamaruddin said a troop of Brimob has been dispatched to the border area to prevent infiltration by the Islamic militants.

The Indonesian government has expressed concern about the conflict in Marawi.

Almost the entire population of about 200,000 have fled the city, but beyond the checkpoints fencing it off there are still hundreds of civilians who cannot get out due to the violence or are being held hostage.

As of Saturday the number of security forces killed in the battle for Marawi stood at 58, while the death toll for civilians was 20 with more than 100 killed overall.
